Are You “Warm” or Are You “Cool”?

Most of us would like to think we are both warm and cool. But when it comes to hair colour or your make up, it’s important to know which one you really are.

Here are the basics…

You are warm if your skin has a golden, olive or apricot cast, you tan well and don’t burn easily.  You tend to have eyes that are darker (amber, dark brown, and hazel).  In natural light the veins in your inner wrist will appear green.   You look healthy and alive while wearing earthy colours, such as, oranges, bronzes, peaches, earthy greens, mocha browns and ivory.

You are cool if your skin has is fairer with a pink-y undertone.  You tend to burn before you tan.  Your eyes are generally blue, green or deep brown.  In natural light the veins in your inner wrist will appear blue.  You look best in jewel tones such as vibrant emerald green, royal and icy blues, rosy pinks, silvers, plums and pure white.

Another test you can try is the Silver/Gold test.

Take a piece of silver fabric and a piece of gold fabric.  In natural light place one hand on the silver fabric and one hand on the gold fabric.   Look at each of your hands, one will light up, glow and appear radiant the other hand will look dull.   If the hand on the gold fabric is your better looking hand then you are most likely warm toned.  If the hand on the silver fabric is better looking than you are most likely cool toned.

What Hair Colours will look best for me now that I know I am warm/cool?

If you have warm skin you will find that deep chocolates, rich caramels, auburns, warm honeys, coppery highlights and golden blonde shades will enhance your “sunny” look.

If you have cool skin you will find that shiny raven-wing blacks, delicious coffee browns and cool ash and platinum blondes will make you absolutely radiant.

Now, what about makeup?

If you are warm toned think sunsets and autumnal shades.  You will look most natural in peach, yellow, orange, olive green, bronze, brown and rust shades.  See the colour swatch on the right.

If you are cool toned think sunrises and spring shades.  You will look radiant in pink, rose, fuschia, blue, silver, white, black, blue-greens and blue-purples.  See the colour swatch on the left.
