Does Cutting Your Hair Make It Grow Faster / Longer

Posted by: Heather  :  Category: Hair Care, Tips

While this myth has been around for a very long time the answer is NO.  Cutting your hair does not make it grow faster or longer.

However, what it does do is it cuts off the dry, damaged and split ends that make your hair appear thin and lifeless.  Freshly cut hair will give the appearance of thick, healthy hair.  For some people, this is the only way to get their hair to grow longer because their hair may be especially prone to splitting and breakage.

If you routinely wear hair clips or pull your hair back into pony tails you are damaging your hair, and the only way to eliminate this damage is to cut off the damaged portions and to try and treat your hair as gently as possible in the future.

Highlighting on a Budget

Posted by: Heather  :  Category: Hair, Tips

In this tough economy we are all looking for ways to keep us looking our best while making our dollars stretch further than ever.  Here are some great ideas that can help to extend the time between your highlighting visits to your stylist.

A Superfine Weave: The thicker and chunkier your highlights are the more obvious your regrowth will be.  Spending a little longer in the chair getting a superfine weave that leaves you looking naturally sun kissed is worth it because the  regrowth looks more natural.  For extra time between visits ask your stylist not to put each foil directly on the scalp, staggering the line a bit can give you even more time between visits and allows for an even more natural look growing out.

Gorgeous Face Framing Highlights: Lightening your hair just around the face keeps your highlights looking subtle and natural.   This can extend your color budget significantly as it can often be done in 10 foils or less.

Tone on Tone / Dimensional Color: Not straying drastically from your natural color and just adding some subtle  dimension to enhance your color is a great idea if you are looking for the best value for your dollar.  When added to either of the above options you can often go 4 months between color touch ups!

Are You “Warm” or Are You “Cool”?

Posted by: Heather  :  Category: Colour, Hair, Make-Up, Tips

Most of us would like to think we are both warm and cool. But when it comes to hair colour or your make up, it’s important to know which one you really are.

Here are the basics…

You are warm if your skin has a golden, olive or apricot cast, you tan well and don’t burn easily.  You tend to have eyes that are darker (amber, dark brown, and hazel).  In natural light the veins in your inner wrist will appear green.   You look healthy and alive while wearing earthy colours, such as, oranges, bronzes, peaches, earthy greens, mocha browns and ivory.

You are cool if your skin has is fairer with a pink-y undertone.  You tend to burn before you tan.  Your eyes are generally blue, green or deep brown.  In natural light the veins in your inner wrist will appear blue.  You look best in jewel tones such as vibrant emerald green, royal and icy blues, rosy pinks, silvers, plums and pure white.

How Not To Dress

Posted by: Heather  :  Category: Hair, Tips

My darling hubby is addicted to reading the most random news that yahoo will provide him with all day, every day.

The other day he sent me the link to this Article “How Not To Dress: The Top 5 Women’s Fashion Mistakes“. I won’t read you the entire article which is true to this day as it was when it was first written last year, but wanted to mention the NUMBER 2 mistake that women make…

Women’s Fashion Mistake #2 – A bad haircut is unforgettable.

A Sally Hershberger celebrity cut can cost $800 dollars. Here’s why: Sally is not only a master hair stylist, but celebrities are willing to pay top dollar for the ultimate accessory–a face-flattering, tailor-made haircut.

If you cannot afford a Hollywood glamour cut, find the best stylist in your city who will mold and sculpt your hair to a simple style that is utter perfection.

I think this in and of itself bears repeating.  Just as eyebrows can make a huge difference to your facial appearance, your hair can make or break your look.  It’s one thing to try and stretch out your trims or your colour refreshment during this economy, but people… remember that your hairstyle does need updating every once and again.  If you are still rocking the same hair from high school during Bon Jovi’s glory days, it’s time for an update!  Don’t worry, it need not be drastic… just a little push into the current decade.  After all… there is no need to date yourself or advertise your real age.  Wink, wink!

Interviewing?

Posted by: Heather  :  Category: Tips

With the economy the way it is these days; many of us are honing our interview skills.

It is important to remember that a person upon meeting you will have formed an opinion of you within the first few seconds.  This is why it is just as important to take your hair and makeup into consideration as it is your interview clothes.

An interview is not the time to spike your hair up, put in some bright colours and impress your future boss with your wild side.

For an interview you want to look as impeccable as possible.  Keep your hair well groomed, in healthy condition and if you colour make sure you are not in need of a touch up; keep your makeup light and neutral.

Go to interview hairstyles for longer hair are a classic bun, chignon, and even a low pony with the elastic covered with a 1/2″ piece of hair wrapped around the base and fastened for a nice clean look.

All varieties of bobs are good for shorter to medium lengths of hair, just make sure you are styled nicely and not in need of a trim to keep up the shape.

And if your hair is shorter, just make sure hair is clean, and styled without too much product.

Now get out there and knock them dead!
